Hi I have the CR-V EX I-MMD CVT 2019
I bought it 2 years ago from local Honda garage. Within a few weeks of having it I put it in to get the brakes checked as I felt they weren’t very good. They told me that they only needed a clean and everything was ok.

I’ve had the brakes checked a few times since by independent mechanics as I feel at times I’m having to press really hard on it.
Each time I’m told everything seems ok.

Then this morning as my husband switched it on a couple of warnings about the brakes flashed up. ES Check system which I know is emissions and a few other lights light a skidding car and he said something about brake system came up. Car was MOTed 2 months ago and no issues. . He drove it around the block and the brakes were making a really bad scrapping clunky sound and virtually no brake power and he felt his foot was practically on the floor.

Called a friend round who also has a CRV and does work on cars and he couldn’t find anything wrong and warning lights had also gone! He does say though that he doesn’t think much of our brakes.

Is there any know fault with the brakes on this car or does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be please?

I suspect that either a pad has worn down to the metal or you have a stone caught in one.

Scraping noise and pedal almost on the floor coupled with lack of stopping power. WORN OUT PADS.
Straight to any garage/tyre fitter for a proper check.!!

Hi

I have the CRV HYBRID 2020 model.

I’m having a similar brake problem, it started when the warning lights came on whilst driving on a dual carriageway.
I wasn’t barking and hadn’t braked even slightly for over a mile.
Orange warning lights came on in sequence, EP, ES, ACC, BRAKEHOLD then the slipping vehicle and finally the hill start symbol.

I moved into the near side and began to brake, the brake pedal went down in stages, and was very inefficient.

I’ve got the vehicle booked into my local garage, it’s always been serviced by Honda.

This was a very scary experience, I plan on delivering the vehicle to the garage when the roads are a lot quieter.

I’ll update the repairs needed when work is complete.

Have you checked the brake fluid level ?
Over time, brake pads wear out and as the mass on them decreases, the brake fluid level in the reservoir naturally drops. In extreme cases, the system can become air-filled. And you really don't want that.

Pauline,
Have you ever had a brake fluid change?
Brake fluid is hygroscopic. A build up of water in the brake system (Can be caused by condensation) will cause serious brake inefficiency.
It works like this......
Apply brakes, discs and callipers get hot. heat transfers to fluid. Water in fluid boils and turns to gas (steam) Fluid cannot be compressed (which is why hydraulic brakes work) but gas, in this case a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen does get compressed. Result no brake force = no stopping!

As far as dashboard imitating a Christmas tree.......signs of a failing 12volt battery, get it load tested by a garage. Must be a load test NOT just a voltage reading.

UPDATE TO MY 2:12:2024 post

My vehicle has just been diagnosed with electronic brake field simulator failure, literally all my braking has failed.

The dealer are going to discuss with Honda HQ a goodwill gesture for repair, my vehicle was bought new June 2020, it’s always been serviced at local Honda dealer, this is my 5th Honda.

I’ve read elsewhere that Japan built CRV’s have a recall for this fault, and something similar is going on the USA.

I haven’t been quoted a cost for repair, but a replacement unit is £1900 plus vat, I expect a labour charge and programming charge.
So change out of £4000. Very little.

Can I recommend anyone with a CRV gets a warranty.

Happy Christmas

I will update when I know more, pity you can’t edit original posts. ( Or if there is a way let me know, before I sell my iPad.)

Argue that Honda should pay the whole bill. See https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=16448.0 (it's a long read, but worth the time).

Update to my post of 2:12:24 & 16:12:24.

Honda Hq have authorised a replacement part to be fitted, they will meet 100% of the cost.

I was prepared to argue my case and take legal advise, but never had to mention this.

I received an immediate offer of 100%.

Happy Christmas

Thanks for this update. It's good to hear that Honda have finally accepted responsibility to fix what I consider to be a latent defect.
